Case Study #1: Transform the Terrace

Old House, New Landscaping

This client reached out to Wildflower Farms after living in their home for several years. They struggled with having a vision for the outside of their home. They wanted something as beautiful as the home they had worked to build in the interior. They felt that their house looked tired and did not attract attention.

Making our Plan

They wanted cement edging and needed a retaining wall rebuilt.

The client felt very overwhelmed with all of varieties of plants, so we went for a nursery visit and during our visit we were able to discuss various plants and were able to find plants that they liked, included colors they loved, needing minimal care, in a design that was very appealing to them.

Making it a Reality

They were so pleased with the end result and sent a note thanking us for truly listening to them and what they wanted from their landscaping.

They were very happy with the end result. The property had increased curb appeal and will be easy for them to maintain. They love coming home to a beautifully landscaped home and enjoy spending more time on the patio enjoying the new look of their yard.

Jennifer met with them this fall to do a fall clean-up together, so they feel comfortable knowing how to maintain their beautiful new landscaping for years to come.

Case Study #2: Beautify the Backyard

Eyesore on the Acreage

This backyard was in desperate need of some revitalization. With such a view of nature in South Dakota, it makes sense that our customers wanted to invest in their property’s overall appearance.

There was an area that had been landscaped at one time with some boulders from the field, an old horse-drawn plow, and presumably a number of perennial plants that have long since stopped coming back in the spring.

An image of an overgrown piece of land on an acreage shows some large boulders, an old horse-drawn plow, a loose ring of rocks, and tall weeds and grass. The grass around is brown and lifeless.

Making our Plan

We have advanced design software that we use to create a visualization of what pops of color and height we would bring to this section of the property.

We took an image of the existing area of the property and overlaid design plans that include elements that will provide pops of color and life to revive this part of the client’s property.

This part of the design process has been very helpful in giving our clients something to visualize and provide input on before any of the hard work begins!

Making it a Reality

Our crews ripped out all of the old vegetation, mulch, volunteer trees, and boulders. Next, we laid down weed barrier over the entire workspace to keep this section of the yard looking fresh for years to come.

Then came the really hard work: Defining the entire area with landscaping blocks as edging. Just in time, the crew showed up with several tons of river rock to spread out. Boulders were set back in place, and the team worked quickly to get the rock in place before getting started with the plants that we helped the client choose for this project.
